"One of my close friends suggested me to join EEC during my school break. The first day participating in the outdoor activity around Guom lake was the day filled with fun and expectation. Being part of a small but active community, I have a chance to examine my strengths and weaknesses.

To begin with, my weakness in presentation skill was obviously revealed when I instructed the first lesson in front of many people. Even though I have been an online instructor for three years, I was nervous to guide people in real life. Unlike online lesson, live lesson requires an appropriate body language to stimulate interaction between instructor and learners. When I did not receive an immediate response to my question, I knew that my presentation skill was not good enough to catch members’ attention and that my lesson’s content was irrelevant to members’ interest.

Additionally, I found many difficulties in reading. By reading, I meant to read not only to gain information but also to understand the author’s intention, tone, and arguments. Author’s intention is the purpose of the article; tone is author’s attitude toward a certain subject; arguments are opinions made and backed in the article. It takes a frequent practice, intensive reading, and open discussion to improve this skill.
Furthermore, writing is one of the most important and difficult skill that I need to work on. Knowing the criteria of a good writing does not make me a better writer, only practice does. Each time I post anything in EEC facebook page, I have to review it to make sure that there is no error. However, I did make a lot of mistakes. This shows my incompetence in writing.

Besides my weaknesses, I feel confident about speaking skill. It took me a year to relearn the English alphabet and another few months to put my thoughts into complete sentences. “Thinking before talking” is my method to improve. Before a child asks for a lollipop, s/he has already imagined about the taste, the color, and also the word “lollipop”. Similarly, before a person talks about a specific thing, s/he must think about it in English.

If I were asked about my expectation to EEC, I would answer in three words – responsibility, eager, and willingness. Responsible person never lets other to monitor him. He manages his time and his personal matters so that he can maximize his time in this community, EEC. In addition, every EEC members should find for himself or herself an enthusiasm to acquire knowledge and to improve. Only with the hunger to learn, someone can be better off; only with the willingness to share, and organization will develop".
